The walls are of 2x4 construction, with 2" of foam and plywood for the exterior surfacing. Where I needed structural shear the most, the ply was against the framing and the foam was outside; where I needed a stronger exterior surface, the foam was inside and the ply was outside. I extended the foam layer all the way around the building, so that the original block walls were encapsulated in insulation. That little extra allowed me to add 150% extra floor space but still have a warmer bedroom with the same heating bill!
