In true Hobbit fashion, the greenhouse was once a cedar porch. A little time with a framing hammer, some plastic, fans, homemade swamp cooler, recycled glass, and voila, an 8x6 greenhouse. Getting water to it was a trip - I fabricated an 8 foot long drill bit and drilled on an angle to a 4 foot depth - just about all the way to the building next door. From there I ran over to the closest water. With no real budget to work with, learning and exploring the world of woody plant propagation was a necessity. I even made myself an artificial leaf to control a misting system for the electrically heated propagation beds. Now virtually unused, it is home for a fig tree, happily taking over and figging away merrily...
