Herringbone Stairs

For loft and attic access, you can modify a normal stair only so much before the rise and run ratio of the steps means you have a ladder, and no longer stairs. But by interleaving alternating treads, the ladder becomes a stair because you can now walk up and down normally. You just don't have a choice of which foot to start out on!
