The pivot bar and beam are made of 1/8th inch stainless steel rod metal epoxied together into a "T". The mercury bulb is on the top and a small sheetmetal plate is underneath is added underneath to beef up the joint. The mercury switch is oriented so that a "tip down" of the mesh opens the contacts .You need as much slack as is possible in the bulb wires. The mercury bulb switch is salvaged from a burnt out heating thermostat
